Heart Diet With Oyster Mushrooms

Nobody is immune to suffering a heart attack. But the risk can be significantly reduced. A heart attack is usually caused by circulatory disorders. They are usually caused by a blood clot that gets stuck at a narrowed point in the coronary arteries, i.e. the blood vessels that supply the heart.

Conversely, a lot of exercise, stress reduction, not smoking and drinking too much alcohol and changing your diet reduce the risk of heart attack. Instead of consuming plenty of animal fats, fruit, vegetables and mushrooms should be on the menu. Mushrooms are of particular importance, not only because they contain practically no fat and trigger a “meat feeling” in the mouth, i.e. make it easier to change your diet, but also because of their ingredients.

The oyster mushroom in particular is suitable for a real “heart diet”. Oyster mushrooms contain natural statins, which – in higher concentrations – are also prescribed by the doctor to lower cholesterol levels. A test at the University of Hanover made it clear how well the statins from oyster mushrooms work.

There, students with slightly elevated cholesterol levels ate oyster mushroom soup for 30 days, while a control group ate tomato soup. In the oyster mushroom eaters, the amount of “bad” LDL cholesterol fell significantly. Nothing changed for those who ate tomato soup.

Oyster mushrooms contain natural statins, which – in higher concentrations – are also prescribed by doctors to lower cholesterol levels. A Japanese study on rats found similar results, according to which the mushrooms reduced LDL cholesterol by 55%, but increased HDL cholesterol by 21%. The good thing about the fungal statins: They do not affect blood lipid levels in the normal range.

But that is not enough.

Mushrooms also stimulate liver and bile activity. The liver is the organ in which the cholesterol circulating in the blood is bound to bile acid and released into the intestine. The indigestible cell structure of the fungi binds these bile acids to itself. The intestine then reports to the liver and gallbladder that it needs more bile acid. This stimulates the liver and gallbladder to work more, excreting more cholesterol and reducing the cholesterol level in the blood.

So eat a delicious mushroom meal more often, enjoy physical exercise and let tension follow relaxation again and again, so that stressful stress does not arise in the first place. A heart-friendly life can be so beautiful.
